Office Visits

Our greatest goal is to give you the healthy, straight, beautiful smile that you've always wanted. We understand that choosing to receive orthodontic care is a big decision, and we respect your reasons for wanting to improve the way you look and feel. Our practice will work with you every step of the way to make sure that your orthodontic care is as rewarding as possible. Our practice utilizes the latest technology, offering a variety of safe and gentle treatment options to give you the customized, individual care you deserve.

Every Smile Starts With an Initial Exam!

Your initial appointment will give you the opportunity to meet our team, learn more about orthodontics, receive a complete initial exam, and find out which treatment options will best meet your needs. Our goal is to have you leave our office informed and comfortable with the new information you have been given. During your initial exam you will meet Dr. Taylor and/or Dr. Edwards and our new patient coordinators, Natalie and Dianne. They will:

  • Review your dental and medical history forms
  • Provide a complete oral orthodontic exam
  • Introduce you to orthodontic treatment
  • Discuss in detail if you are a candidate for orthodontic treatment
  • Determine if treatment is required now or in the future

Dr. Taylor, Dr. Edwards and our treatment coordinators will be glad to answer any questions you may have, and we will provide all of the information that you need to determine which treatment is right for you. We appreciate you are probably hearing about orthodontics for the first time so we have allowed enough time for the doctor to answer all the questions you may have, so please do not feel rushed.  Please contact our practice to schedule your initial exam.

Not Ready to Start Treatment Yet?

If, after your exam appointment the Doctors feel that treatment is not recommended at this time they may decide to schedule an observation appointment for a later date.  This appointment is typically a quick appointment to check dental development and determine if the patient is ready to commence orthodontic treatment.

Ready to Start Orthodontic Treatment?

To help us develop your individual orthodontic treatment plan two appointments are required.  The first is a diagnostic records appointment and the second is the consultation appointment.  During your diagnostic records appointment we will be gathering information that will assist Dr. Taylor and Dr. Edwards in developing an orthodontic treatment plan that is specific to your individual needs.  One of our qualified Assistants will take impressions to fabricate study models, x-rays, and photographs.

During your consultation appointment Dr. Taylor, Dr. Edwards and our Treatment Coordinators will discuss in detail the orthodontic treatment recommendations.  Our goal is to have answered any questions you may have, and provide all of the information that you need to determine which treatment is right for you. After the consultation appointment you leave our office:

  • With a customized orthodontic treatment plan
  • Additional questions you may have had addressed
  • Appointments scheduled to commence treatment
  • All financial information and insurance options discussed and have chosen an interest free payment plan option.

What Happens After the Consultation?

You're one step closer to achieving the smile you've always wanted! After your consultation appointment, we will schedule your first appointments. When we place your orthodontic appliances, or braces, the appointment time can be as short as thirty minutes or as long as two hours.  The length of time depends on the type of orthodontic appliances Dr. Taylor and Dr. Edwards have prescribed for you.

Scheduling Appointments

Visiting the orthodontist about every eight to twelve weeks is an important part of your orthodontic treatment.   Under the direction of Dr. Taylor and Dr. Edwards our Hygienists will see our patients for their regular adjustments appointments which usually last 20 to 30 minutes.  We have arranged our schedule to allow our appointments to run efficiently and on time throughout the day.  Our team will work with you to make sure that your appointments are as convenient as possible. When scheduling appointments, please let us know what days and times work best for you.

We understand that “life happens”! If you're running late or need to reschedule, please let us know and we will do everything we can to accommodate you. When you're ready to schedule your first appointment, contact our practice, one or our friendly staff will be pleased to assist you. We're looking forward to working with you.

Visiting the Dentist During Orthodontic Treatment

It is very important that you continue to visit your family dentist once every six months, even during your orthodontic treatment, for teeth cleanings and routine dental checkups. If extra dental care is needed, we will be happy to coordinate with your family dentist to make sure that you are receiving the best care possible.
